Our educational events
Educational workshops are our second axis of our work that helps us cultivate our libraries as learning spaces beyond the traditional school environment. These workshops beautifully complement the books we provide, and bring some joy and laughter to the sometimes quiet library!
All the workshops are tailored to meet the children’s specific needs and interests, and allow for children’s ownership. Our libraries in Berlin provide a diverse selection of workshops run by local educators, experts, artists, and facilitators. These include active storytelling sessions, and artistic workshops such as rap, drawing, and photography. The sessions are usually done in German, Arabic, or Farsi, according to the language spoken by the children.
In our libraries in Uganda and Morocco, our local partners provide workshops they developed independently. We support them whenever needed. This includes reading exercises, storytelling and theatre workshops.
Overall, our educational workshops offer children the opportunity to try a new discipline, meet other kids, and develop their senses. They directly contribute to their well-being, as they develop children’s socio-emotional skills: amongst those are self-expression and self-confidence. On a collective level, by creating alongside other children, children also learn tolerance, collaboration, and cooperation.
