Multilingual book readings for kids everywhere

Lilipad Online is an online platform offering readings of timeless kids’ books, all in multiple languages.

While the kids in Lilipad’s communities can’t get to our libraries, our mission is to bring our libraries to them! Over the coming months, we’ll be publishing multilingual readings from our favourite childrens’ books in order to keep the magic of reading alive during the pandemic. Best of all, this means children all around the world will be able to enjoy our readings.

What’s Lilipad Online?

Due to the risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, most countries in the world imposed a strict national lockdown in early 2020 in hopes of curbing the curve of the first wave of infections. Among these countries were Morocco, Germany and Uganda (in this order), all the countries were we operate. In the matter of a few weeks, all our 5 libraries were closed and with that our ability to reach our communities was significantly reduced if not closed.

How can we create a positive impact on the communities of children that we serve if our libraries are closed? This completely unexpected turn of events forced us to reconsider our approach and expand our formats.

If children around the world can’t go to libraries anymore, can’t we still bring stories to them? We started this project primarily with children from our communities in mind, and knowing that we’ll most likely only be able to reach the kids from Berlin, given most the families we work with in Uganda and Morocco live in rural areas and/or do not have access to the internet.
